Laser Spot Care Essentials for Flawless Skin Recovery

Chuseok, our Korean Thanksgiving, often falls in mid-September and gives us a much-needed 4 to 5-day break. For many, it’s the perfect time to focus on skin treatments, like removing spots or moles. But achieving flawless results isn’t just about the procedure—it’s all about the aftercare.

Hello, K-beauty enthusiasts!

Procedures like Excel V, Erbium, and CO2 lasers are highly effective for mole removal, pigmentation, and flat wart treatments.

At dermatology clinics, some clients come in with a pre-decided treatment plan due to past experiences of being overly pressured by sales reps, but it’s important to understand that for the best results, clinics need to evaluate your skin in person.

However, while dermatologists tailor laser types to your skin’s needs, the real magic happens with consistent, proper aftercare.

These lasers either cause mild thermal damage, which leads to scab formation and healing, or involve shaving off superficial skin lesions to promote recovery.

Right after the procedure, it’s common to experience redness, swelling, or even mild oozing.

Proper aftercare is crucial for achieving the best results. Be sure to protect the treated area from UV exposure and avoid getting it wet. Also, it’s important to avoid using whitening products with vitamins before the wound fully heals, as this can lead to unwanted pigmentation.

When considering treatments that can help speed up the healing process after laser procedures, here are a few that dermatology clinics typically offer:

1. Cooling and Soothing Therapies

Clinics often use cooling devices, cold compresses, and LED therapy to reduce redness and promote recovery right after your treatment. Modeling masks and soothing sheet masks are also great for calming the skin.

PDRN injection

Derived from Salmon DNA, Polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN) injections enhance tissue repair and reduce inflammation, especially for larger lesions. It’s one of the most popular post-laser treatments in Korea for its regenerative benefits.

Also I wanted to share some personal recommendations for readily available products because they’re super effective for laser spot treatment aftercare, and I think you’ll find them helpful too.

Just so you know, I’m not officially connected to these companies or products, but I use them from time to time and often recommend them to my clients!

Top Picks for At-Home Aftercare

1. Regenerative Ointment: Dermafactor

Formulated with G4PRF-300™, a peptide complex that includes 26 growth factors and over 300 proteins, this product accelerates healing and minimizes irritation after laser treatments.

A great option for soothing redness and repairing skin barriers.

2. Regenerative Cream: AESTURA Atobarrier 365 Cream

It features the ‘Triple Lipid-Capsule’ technology, combining Ceramide, Fatty Acid, and Cholesterol. These ingredients work together to repair and reinforce the skin’s protective barrier and hydration.

I highly recommend this cream as a substitute wound dressing to use after laser treatments, once the protective patch has fallen off. This is because it helps locking in moisture and shielding the skin from stressors.

3. Hydrocolloid Patch: ZY-NU Comfo Care

Most clinics often use DuoDERM after laser treatments, cutting it to fit the treated area. However, its strong adhesive can sometimes irritate the sensitive skin of East Asians.

Example of pigmentation caused by prolonged use of DuoDERM

That’s why I prefer using ZY-NU Comfo Care spot patches, made from high-quality hydrocolloid material, as a alternative. Ideal for absorbing impurities and preventing infections. Unlike traditional DuoDERM, it’s gentler on sensitive skin and reduces the risk of pigmentation.

It’s important to change the patch once it turns white, as this indicates it has absorbed excess moisture from the wound. Unlike patches containing whitening agents or other active ingredients, which may worsen the laser-treated skin or cause pigmentation issues, simple hydrocolloid patches are ideal for laser aftercare.

Switch to lotion once the oozing stops, but keep sunscreen handy to protect the healing area.

No more oozing from the laser-treated area before Chuseok, so there’s no need for a patch anymore!

Final Thoughts

Laser spot treatments can work wonders for your skin, but the long-term results depend on how well you take care of it at home. From UV protection to choosing the right products, every step counts in ensuring a successful recovery.

Pro Tip: Keep your post-treatment products simple, hydrating, and protective. For optimal results, trust your dermatologist’s recommendations and stay consistent with aftercare.

When it comes to lesions that require laser treatment, repeated sessions are often necessary. Consistent aftercare between treatments plays a crucial role in achieving the best results over time.

I hope this guide helps you feel confident about your laser treatment recovery journey!

Stay radiant and glowing,

Dr. Soomin
